This is one class you wouldn’t dare skip.
Takashi Miike is back with yet another one of his trade mark controversial films. This time it’s high school slaughter-fest, Lesson of the Evil (2012), a macarbe lesson in black humour and extreme violence. Starring Hideaki Ito and Takayuki Yamada (Crows Zero), and based on the hit novel by Yuusuke Kishi. Lesson of the Evil delves into the mind of Seiji Hasumi, a homicidal psychopath in charge of the senior class, who takes a hard line on delinquency, bullying and student misbehaviour.
Of course in true Takashi Miike fashion, it’s a blood bath.
Seiji Hasumi, a popular and well liked high school teacher, is not the great guy he seems to be. He’s having it off with one of his students for one thing. But what’s worse, he’s a severely disturbed, anti-social, psychopath/sociopath, who curbs his homicidal tendencies by bumping off bad students in apparent suicides and accidents. But as the body count starts to rise and suspicions with it, how much longer can Seiji keep up the act as he begins slipping further into madness.
